Hey everyone, I was hoping you guys had a few mins to answer some questions if you can.

I'm 23, and for a couple of years or so I have noticed a considerable amount of hair on my hands when I wash my hair in the shower. I never thought very much about because my hair always looked the same. I guess i figured just natural shedding.

Well now I'm starting to notice that my hairline is slightly further back at the temples. Not too much, just back to around where my sideburns are. Now im not sure if this alone is a sign of hair loss, or just a sign of the normal changing of the hairline into adulthood.

The part that has more more worried is I'm beginning to notice that if I brush my bangs straight down that the sides of the bangs (closer to the temples) are considerably thinner than the center. If I wear a hat and I take it off my bangs seem to naturally push themselves into a v shape towards the center of my forhead (leaving the temple areas exposed). It kinda has me a bit freaked out, and all this has happened over the last year or so. I recently purchased white sheets and noticed that I am shedding about 30 or so hairs on my pillow a night (I don't know if this is new, or I'm just noticing it for the first time.)

I'm assuming I'm at the "earlier stages" of hair loss and it's not a nutritional thing or something (I could be wrong though...what does it sound like to you guys?).

Do you have any ideas on what would be the best course of action for me? It seems to me that my main goal is to have the hair at the side of the bangs/temple area to regrow thicker (is that even possible?).

Oh and I don't know if it's related, but I am also getting premature greying in my hair.

Thanks in advance for any help

It sounds to me like a maturing hairline...and/or as you put it- the start of hairloss. Meaning I'd focus on keeping what you have and not to expect getting those temple areas filled in.

hey blahblah,

I am also in the same situation you are in. I am 23 years old and actually my hair loss started when I was 21 or so. I also noticed the same symptoms you are describing. However, now 2 years after my initial noticable hair loss I can say that I have more or less halted the hair loss and even regrown some of the hair in my temples that I had lost (and this keeps improving as I will describe further).

First thing I started off with is propecia. I love that stuff. I don't experience any of the described side effects but that is what I am attributing was the primary cause of my halted hair loss. For about a year and a half I solely used propecia and it did the trick to slow the hair loss down. I did notice occasional spurts of hair loss but nothing too noticable. Regardless it seemed with just propecia I was not going to have good luck in stopping the hair loss completely.

Then I tried something else after I watched that dateline hair loss episode. They mentioned a thing called a lasercomb that uses low level laser therapy (LLLT) as a sort of growth activator for your hair follicles. It doesn't do anything with DHT its just meant to make the cells which produce your hairs healthier which, in turn, makes your hairs healthier, thicker, and consequently make your hairline look denser. I have posted a previous article discussing this which you should look up for more details.

Regardless, I think these 2 therapies together are an excellent combination for slowing/stopping hair loss and potentially regrowing hair.

Be aware, whereas propecia has general acceptance for success, many people go back and forth on the effectiveness of the lasercomb. I myself have noticed considerable improvements in my hairline since the using the comb, but it really looks to be a hit or miss treatment.

Hope my advise has helped. Reading your post was like a mirror of what I was going through 2 years ago so if you have anymore questions I'll try to help too :D

Blahblah, it sounds to me like you're in the early stages of androgenetic alopecia, especially since you're noticing a pattern primarily in your temple area.
Do you have any ideas on what would be the best course of action for me? It seems to me that my main goal is to have the hair at the side of the bangs/temple area to regrow thicker (is that even possible?).
Hands down I would say you should start Minoxidil 5% and Propecia. These are the two treatments with the most research backing them. If you use these two treatments together you'll most likely keep the existing hair that you have. You may have periodic shedding phases where you feel like they're not working, but you need to look at the big picture. The best thing to do to keep track is to take pictures of your thinning areas now, and use the products for at least 6 months, and take additional pictures at the 6 month mark and compare them. 6 months is a minumum amount of time as these treatments continue to give you benefits for up to two year in terms of potential regrowth of your hair.

Since you're in the early stages of hair loss, if you take action now you'll have a good chance of keeping most of your hair.

Just be patient. Once you're on the right regimen, try not to think about or obsess about your hair loss. A lot of people do this and end up psyching themselves out.

You should try to have a doctor keep track of your progress as well.

If you find after 6 months to a year that these products haven't helped at the very least to slow the progression of your hair loss, then you have plenty of other options to consider that may be useful, such as Xandrox 15, Revivogen, etc. Although using Revivogen right now in addition to Propecia and Minoxidil would be a great idea if you can afford it because you are getting a bit of extra insurance in the inhibition of DHT. Anyway, I know there's a lot to think about and research, but in most cases the Minox-Propecia combo will help you keep your hair and maybe regrow some as well.

I have started using the lasercomb after many years of thinking about it. It's too soon to tell whether it's working for me, but I'll keep everyone posted.
Oh and I don't know if it's related, but I am also getting premature greying in my hair.
At your age it's normal to have a few grey hair. I wouldn't worry about it.
Thanks in advance for any help
