My inflammation theory - SAD AS IT MIGHT BE
Hi everyone,
I am starting to believe in the theory that baldness is the outcome of an inflammtory reaction that occurs at the hair follicles or at the surrounding celles of the follicles. As a pharmacist, I know that one of the ONLY reactions in the body that changes slowly but IRREVERSIBLY
the functioning of cells is inflammation. Just like a continous inflammation of the joints, COPD, scarring etc... Once a cell has lost its function it changes into a fibroblast - a scar cell and will remain unfunctional forever. I think this is the reason why DHT inhibitors won't work for everyone. Let's face it, if male pattern hairloss was purely a consequence of DHT, drugs like propecia and avodart would help every single man with impressive success. So the theory of an iflammation at the follicles would explain it. If a hair follicle changed and lost its funcionality, nothing will revive it. It also explains well the fact that the more you wait till you start with treatment the less effect you will get from it, as the follicles/surrounding tissues changed irreversably. Blocking DHT may be important because DHT probabely has a role in this inflammation. Only if the inflmmation isn't severe (or there are hairs that only started with the reaction) will these drugs have the chance to actually regrow.
So guys, in my opinion if you tried propecia or other DHT inhibitor and didn't see any change or did see but the progress has stopped and it's steady, it's very doubtful that other products will help more. This is probably the most you can regrow...
I am seriously considering to focus on anti inflammation drugs such as Elidel cream or Inflamil, and I believe this should be the first line of drugs when STARTING the threatment in hairloss.
So, I am not expecting to regrow more than what I have so far, but dreams like Elidel might maintain my situation. I am going to add a topical DHT inhibitor (Don't want to take oral propecia) because I do think it has to do with the inflammation.
Tell me what you think about my theory guys. I honestly start to believe in it...SAD AS IT MIGHT BE.

OH I believe you, without a doubt from my own experiences. Im 21, and Ive been losing hair for the last 2 years. Im at the point now where my hair line is thinning and my crown or vertex area is really thin. And I am using 2 of the most popular and highly effective products. One being Xandrox15 and another being Revivogen. And Ive been using xandrox since december and using revivogen for the last 3 months. ANd boy oh boy am I still losing hair. I honestly think the Xandrox15 OR even the revivogen is triggering some sort of inflammation. And the thing is, its hard to tell if I have it or not cause its not like my whole scalp goes under inflammation. Its almost like little spots here and there get itchy and feel hotter then my average body temperature. I didnt think too much on it, but after weeks and weeks I realize, I think I have inflammation. Cause if I am getting all these random itchy spots and my scalp feels warmer then the rest of my skin, and if I havent had much result from xandrox15 or revivogen....hmmmm....INFLAMMATION!!!!!!!!!! So, I ordered Inflammil and inflammil shampooo today without hesitation. I wish I woulda done this sooner is all Im gonna have to say.....at least I can save the remainder hair I got left......this sucks though cause Im afraid some spots wont regrow but we'll see....and if anything I'll get a hair transplant in the future.....so Im not too bummed out...just glad I realize this now then later. thanks

You are RIGHT.
hey
I have been focusing on the same issue now - and when i went towards ANTI inflammatory regimine - I noticed a great improvement in my hair growth.
Things to stop inflammation?
1. ENZYMES!!
2. FISH OIL!!
3. GREEN TEA EXTRACT!!
4. B-ViTAMINS (Methyl form!!)
There are lots more -- but focus on keeping your inflammatory processes under control -- this seems to really work...and it works without screwing up your hormonal balances. I noticed a great regrowth on my temples as I focused towards this type of therapy. I think the enzymes on empty stomach (pancreatic enzymes) - are very potent anti inflammatory tools.

Hi,
Lesshair....you mention fish oil in your list of things to stop inflammation. Is there a specific fish oil you recommend? My current daily regiment consists of:
Propecia
5% Minoxidil in glycerin (1 mL twice daily)
Saw Pawmetto (pill)
Black Currant Oil (extract in pill form)
Vitamin B-50 Complex (pill)
Multivitamin (Centrum Performance)
I have always had a very sensitive scalp. The over-the-counter minoxidil was irritating my scalp. The 5% minoxidil in glycerin doesn't irritate my scalp, but it is extremely oily. Can anyone suggest a minoxidil in something different....that isn't so oily? I am really interested in modifying my regiment to cut back on things that aren't that effective (maybe the black currant oil), and try new things that might be. I would like to take the anti-inflammatory approach. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

Hendrxz, if the minoxidil in glycerin doesn't irritate your scalp then I would recommed using it. It can really increase hair counts and increase thickness of your hair which will lead to better coverage. If the oilyness bothers you, you could wake you could wake up an hour or two before you normally wake up, put on the minox and then wash in out in your morning shower. That way you could get some minoxidil absorption on your scalp and not have that oilyness throughout the day. As for the night application, that shouldn't be a problem since you will be sleeping.

I agree. It's vital to keep the inflammatory processes at bay.
I just recently bought the HealthBalance brand of Omega-3-6-9 fatty acids to add to my internal regimen. Bought it from Costco
I am also having quality non-farmed salmon at least once a week.
I'm seeing a difference in the seb. derm. from the fish alone.
On another note: Kakarot, if you think Revivogen and/or Xandrox are potentially causing inflammation for you, I think you should consider stopping these for about a week or so to see if that inflammation goes away. If it does then you should use other products that don't cause inflammation for you. I'm in EXACTLY the same boat. These products really helped me maintain and even regrow some hair and I wholeheartedly recommend them to people. But I personally have opted for staying away from anything I feel inflames my scalp. No matter how good it is supposed to work. I am consoling myself by using Finasteride in this case, which seems on its own to be maintaining for me (or at least slowing down the loss).

You may want to consider using it just once a day at night-time before bed. Then just wash it out when you shower in the morning. The whole 'use twice-a-day' thing makes no sense to me at all. In fact, I think it can lead to sensitivity if you use too much topicals twice a day or more, but that's just my opinion. I had good success maintaining and even regrowing some lost hair using Xandrox15 and Revivogen just once a day.
I had to stop though because I was diagnosed with another type of hair loss called cicatricial alopecia, that was being aggravated by using topicals. But if I didn't have this problem I'd still be using those two products once a day.
