Hi, i'm loosing hair at the temples and my derm prescribed me propecia. i'm afraid if something better comes along , replacing propecia for it will make loose a lot of hair... is it true when u get off propecia u get worst than when u started?
Also i am thinking of blocking DHT with some chinese herbs or zinc,b6 and azeleic acid, instead of propecia. Read that works.. Anyone with experience would care to comment?
i'm afraid of taking a drug for the rest of my life..
Thinking of getting herbal treatment... Losing it at temples

Hello D_Darko and welcome!
Taking the decision to start Propecia definitely requires a fair amount of thought because you are correct in that it is a long term commitment. You have to use it for at least 6 months to a year to begin to see results from it. However, it is currently one of the best tools in your arsenal for treating hair loss.
Yes, if you stop Propecia after having used it for a while, you will eventually lose the hair you would have lost anyway due to your hair loss situation. It will appear to be a rapid loss in some cases as your hair loss "catches up" to where it would have been had you not started Propecia.
I would say given the choice between Propecia and herbals or vitamins, I would use Propecia. You should definitely visit a dermatologist though to be sure you do not have a form of hair loss for which Propecia would not be useful (namely, hair loss of the non-androgenetic-alopecia type).
Once you decide to take Propecia, then stick with it. It is safe as far as we know, and it is one of the best options available to you. If you're reluctant to take an internal, then I would recommend a topical dht-inhibitor and anti-androgen like Revivogen, or topical spironolactone (Dr. Lee's brand is excellent).
Don't hesitate to ask any other questions.
Best Regards,
Sam

Thanks guys!I'll have an appointment with a dermatologist this tuesday (again...) , i'll update the news then! I will tell her that i want to use a topical ( that's not minoxidil ) because i think my hair loss is really limited to the temples! My hair doesn't seem to fall out anywhere else (and i hope it stays that way!). I lost like..1 cm or 0.5cm of hair in the temples in one year of my hair loss condition. I still have very tinny hairs, like 0,5cm/1cm long, where i used to had normal hair. Do you think it's possible to halt further hair loss and regrow at least half of what i lost? Is spiro usefel?does it make the folicle dependent like minoxidil does?

Back from the derm. It seems Portuguese derms only have these two "solutions": propecia and minoxidil. One is a systemic hormone inhibitor...(greeeeeat....i won't use such a thing!!) the other the scientists don't even know how it works (plus the other derm told me it isn't really that much effective for regrowth)...Today I realised how i hate this country!!! It looks like a 3rd world country...only two treatments pfff...
And I can't believe they haven't found a cure for this issue..So many scientists,so many years of study..They say it's not a disease but i consider it to be because it affects one's life.It affects mental health, there are even people suicidal about this, and i must say i do feel that way sometimes, but i just don't want to let this hairloss thing control me, still i don't know what will happen if my condition gets worse.
It's sad to know how things will end up for me and to feel i can't help it(this is what i get for paying attention to my health).I'm used to always solve my problems, but this i don't think i can solve!
This feeling of impotence, of not being able to do anything to help me, is driving me mad. Everyday i look in the mirror just to see if today i have less hair than yesterday.I count my hair everyday in the shower.I count each straind of hair that falls right to the ground, laughing at my youth,at me.And i know that's just stupid, but i can't help it! I just don't want to waste the best years of my life thinking of this...as if my others troubles wouldn't trouble me ENOUGH, this one had to join the "gang"...
Ok, aside from this what can i expect of using minoxidil one time a day(derm's prescription). She said it would halt hair loss and regrow hair but i don't believe it becuase it doesn't inhibit de androgen receptor blocker, nor does it block DHT...I don't have the money nor the whill to add propecia to it.
What about that proxiphen-N cream???Are there other effective "things", not expensive and not time consuming to apply. How can i order them!?
