Here is some intersting quotes

"Immune System
Iodine also plays a role in the immune system. Many years ago it was noted that bacterial infections cause an increase in the metabolism of thyroxine (38, 39). In particular, leukocytes use halogens such as chloride and iodide to help destroy bacteria that they engulf via phagocytosis. Chloride is used because it is available in abundance, but experiments have shown that leukocytes will use iodide just as well as thyroxine as a source of halogens for destroying the engulfed bacteria (40). The mechanism requires three players—a peroxidase enzyme, hydrogen peroxide, and iodide for destroying the bacteria with by-products of the oxidation of iodide and not just free iodine playing an important role. Leukocytes also use other means of destroying bacteria, but the halogens (chloride and iodide) are an important part of this process.

One application of this is that iodine needs will increase while a person is fighting a bacterial or viral infection. Elevated levels of diiodotyrosine, created from thyroxine by leukocytes as they phagocytose bacteria, were found in critically ill patients fighting sepsis and severe non-systemic infections (41). Having sufficient iodine present in the body to fight infections will improve a person’s overall health and disease resistance.

What if that iodine is not supplied? Since chronic infections use up thyroxine faster than normal, is it possible that chronic bacterial or viral infections lead to a hypothyroid condition? Could a shortage of iodine be the connection between Epstein-Barr infections and other infections and chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia?

WOW...

That's amazing, and yes... don't think I don't know what you are thinking about me and my double chin problems, JDP! I believe I might have to look into this -once I'm married and I have health insurance again, that is! lol...

Man that naked woman picture is AWESOME! NO, not like that... meaning, that she didn't have any "T & A" at all at 27, got her hypothyroidism treated, and she developed it! -as well as an interest in the opposite sex.

Yea those pictures are crazy. That one above for example.... You can really see how his scalp changes shape (along with an overall better look).

Ive never eatin alot of iodine in my diet. What would be the easiest was to check for thyroid problems. I read alot of the symptoms on another thread (i have them all from what was listed) alltho i dont have any bloating like the people in these pics.

How do i know when my thyroid is under control etc?

from IH

"40% of all Americans suffer from hypothyroidism yet only about 10% of the patients tested will be diagnosed"

&

"He stated that 40% of the population has low thyroid function. In my practice, I find over 90% are hypothyroid."

Hey cuebreeze,

Here's a test to know when you are no longer hypo

"Do not use a digital thermometer for the results may not be accurate. ) Shake down the thermometer and place it bedside at night. When you awaken and before you get out of bed in the morning, place it deeply in your armpit for ten minutes by the clock. Then, take the reading. Do this for two days and average. The normal is from 97.8 to 98.2 degrees. A reading below the lowest reading is suggestive of hypothyroidism and, above, of hyperthyroidism. You must be fever-free to start and must be at the resting state upon awakening. (Do not wake up to an alarm clock.) For an infant, the study can be done rectally, just remember to add one degree to the above normal readings. Barnes had found the conventional thyroid tests often normal or negative, equivocal or confusing. I found the same to be true, as well as costly"
