Just introducing myself

Post by Cosmo »

I'm 39 and I've been losing my hair slowly (top of the head mostly. Hairline is pretty solid) for about 9 or 10 years. Nobody else can tell yet- thank GOD for ProTHIK.

I recently tried ProCede. Didn't work at all.

I tried Minox a few years back. But it made my scalp itch and I didn't like the twice-per-day inconvenience.

I asked my doctor about Propecia and he said that he doesn't like to prescribe it due to it's side-effects. And I have to admit the side effects (ED and Gyno) do scare the F out of me.

Off and on I've used Nano Shampoo, Nizoral shampoo, Tricomin shampoo, Revivogen shampoo, and laser comb.

But about 2 months ago I decided to get serious. Today my routine is Laser Comb 3-4 times per week + Nizoral shampoo 3-4 times per week + Tricomin shampoo 3-4 times per week + Prox-N every day.

There MIGHT be a LITTLE thickening going on on my crown so far, but I'm not positive.

Hair loss is a very depressing thing for me- and losing my hair is just unacceptable for me- as I'm sure it is for most of you. I HAVE to have at least a mostly full head of hair. I recently started thinking about hair transplants.

I just wanted to get this off of my chest and introduce myself. I'm glad there there's a forum like this! Thanks.

Cosmo

ps- I'd love to hear any suggestions regarding my regimen.

EDIT- I just realized that this belongs in the 'Personal Hair Loss Stories and Updates' section. Sorry.

Hello Cosmo and welcome to the forums,

I think it's great that you are getting serious about treating your hair loss. Of course you're going to get a lot of different opinions so I encourage you to keep researching till you find the right regimen for you.

In my opinion, you should rule out Propecia. The side-effects go away relatively quickly from my understanding (though I am not a doctor). And that's IF you even get them.

I'm currently on 1.25mg of Proscar a day myself. I also use the lasercomb. I am not using any other topical at this time. I found that while topicals worked for me for a period of time, I would tend to develop sensitivity to them. I even had folliculitis for about 2 years (not sure if it was related to using to many topicals but it seems to have tapered off for the most part, knock on wood).

The combo of the Proscar and the lasercomb seems to have stopped my shedding to the point where I don't even notice the few hair you are supposed to lose per day even if you don't suffer from hair loss.

I have recently gotten a hair transplant done as well, but I want to keep the hair I had prior to the hair transplant, so I am sticking with my regimen.

Anyway, I think you should consider trying Propecia or Proscar for a while to see if you even get side-effects. If not, it's a good way to keep your existing hair or at least slow down the loss.

If your doctor won't prescribe it because he thinks there are too many side-effects or the risk is too high I would get a second opinion. If you look at the studies that were done, the risk was pretty minimal. I personally am not seeing any noticeable side-effects at all. Just less hair loss.

Regards,
Sam
