Problems with minox?

Hi all

This is my first post so I hope i've got it on the right forum!

I was just wondering if anyone else has had problems with minox.

The first load I got was Rogaine, i got that when i went to the states on holiday (infact I saw that dateline NBC thing that always seems to be mentioned, good timing huh?)

And it worked, i mean really worked, amazing results, but of course 3 months went by and I was about to run out when some friends were going to the states and I asked them to get me some more (i don't mind people knowing i used minox, my housemates called it watering my hair lol)

Anyway what they came back with was a minox solution but no rogaine, i cant remember the make now, but i thought what the hell its the same chemical right?

well thats where it all went wrong, i got accelerated hair loss and massively irritated scalp until the point i just couldnt do use it anymore.

i left it a couple of months and thought maybe i'd try regaine (the uk name for rogaine) its more expensive but thats got to be the same...well now that irritates it as well so i can't use that either.

I was just wondering if others have had this problem?

I'm seriously tempted by the HairMax laser comb, seems to have good results but thats just what the internet says...what do you think?

Oh yes, i'm 21, just, and its been falling out seriously for 2 years or so.

Hello Goosedesigns and welcome to the forum!

What you may be experiencing is a reaction to the Propylene glycol that is in most minoxidil solutions. You can get a Propylene Glycol free minoxidil solutions from http://www.minoxidil.com. I would try that out before trying the lasercomb since you got good results from it.

And yes, Rogaine=minoxidil.

Found it, fantastic and the shipping to the UK is cheap!! thanks so much, i was so annoyed that i couldnt carry on using it, there is hope yet! im fighting a loosing battle, its hairedatory (get it?

) but if i can make it last a lil longer its all good in my books!

Howdy folks!

I placed the order (i did 4 bottles at first just to see if it didnt irritate my scalp and to see if it still works)

Something that i was wondering about is if this chemical you have mentioned causes so many problems (which it much because u knew exactly what i was talking about) why is it included?

Any ideas?

I think that it gives it a longer shelf life or something.

I would have recommended just ordering one bottle of the PG-free minox to make sure that your scalp doesn't react the same.

Changes are though that it was the PG irritating your scalp.

I will keep you aprised, it has typically taken up to 2 weeks for any irritation to return when I have not used rogaine for an extended period. cheers for the help:D

ok just a quick update, the shedding has increased slightly, it has always been quick to do so with me, even when it was working the first time round, fingers crossed.

Hey guys, just a quick update and a question, increased shedding is in full swing, but how long does it last at this high rate? i've been using it for a month now, no irritation but no sign of it slowing down either.

I think that the shed lasts for a different period of time for everyone. I have heard some people shedding for a month, some two months.

It is really good news that your scalp is accepting the minox and not getting irritated. You should feel good about this. Hopefully in 6 -12 months you will see some thickening or at least some maintenance.

'Lo all.

It's been some time since i last posted so I thought I should give an update.

I have been using minox for almost 2 months now and the shedding is still going. It got very heavy for a while but it is starting to lighten I think, there is deffinately less hair in the tub now but still a hell of alot more than there was when I didnt use it.

Since I have been using the minox you can deffinately see that my hair has got alot thinner, this is slightly worrying, what would you lot recommend? keep going with it? the irritation I used to suffer has not appeared this time which is $\:D/$ .

Anyway, back to cooking dinner!

nope, mainly due to the cost of things, being 21 it can be a little hard on the wallet. Would that help though? deffinitely help?
