It looks like hair multiplication is really happening - and happening soon! Have a look at this article:

In all previous articles Dr. Ken Washnik said that HM was "on the horizon" or that they were "getting close" to being able to do it. Now he says that they are "growing human hair, and growing it on human skin". Furthermore, the article states that both ARI and Intercytex have a product that works, and that they can "multiply the number of cells about a thousandfold". This is exciting!!!!

It would be awful if it turned out that this caused skin cancer or something. It is possible that it will had an adverse effect. You never know.

They wouldn't put a product on the market that isn't 100% safe. Intercytex's product has already been tested for safety, and Dr. Ken Washenik from ARI said in an interview that safety was one of their main concerns. Furthermore, any product will have been tested thoroughly by the FDA before it gets on the market. (If they already have a product that works, this is the only reason it is not available yet.) I am not a doctor, but I read an article about HM and cell multiplication, and apparently it would take multiple multiplication "passages" for it to cause cancer, but they use only a single "passage", so it is safe.

I thought it was interesting that Curis hopes to start human trials of the hedgehog. I would like to believe that would work. If it did, then a person could get back their original hair follicles without needles.

If hair cloning ever works, I think you'll see a lot of people using it for vanity purposes. I mean, women without thinning hair wanting to add to existing hair. I don't know a woman (thinning hair or not) who would not wish to have more hair growing on her scalp.

I'm actually more worried about the Curis product (with regard to skin cancer). But again: It will be tested thoroughly before it gets on the market.

This all sounds a bit dodgy to me. I think I'd wait a few years to see how other people get on before doing this kind of thing. I think it's the word 'cloning' that makes me a bit shivery!

I'm not a doctor, but I know that the word "cloning" is actually inaccurate. I think the correct term is "follicular neogenesis". It's a completely different process. Any product will have been thoroughly tested before it gets on the market. (Furthermore, I find the fact that this doctor tried it out on himself very reassuring.)
