Finpecia OR Fincar

Post by mrsmith »

Fincar is a generic Proscar; Finpecia = generic propecia

Fincar yields the same dail dose of 1mg a day, if quartered or fifthed; amount 1/3 the price. Which is more effective?

Here's what I did to start to get back on regimen:

Month of minox (need to refill)
1-2 months of Omega EFAs
1-2 months of Saw Palmetto (waiting in finpecia)
Finpecia last 20 days
Ginger (in foods and sometimes on hair)

I have noticed results... hair is growing longer everywhere... top is actually outgrowing sides. Usually the thinning hair on top grows shorter and slower... I still have diffuse areas, but coloring/masking with Couvre darkens the light blonde velous hair.

The Ginger bit sounds farged I bet, but I did notice a "difference".

It is full of effective anti-inflammatory compounds known as gingerols. I bought some ground ginger from the grocer; all on a whim.
I think using it in every drink and on foods acted as a mild muscle relaxer, which kept my facial and remple muslces relaxed. less tension and noticably less "shine". When my scalp started to look shiny, I applied some ginger. It smells, well gingery, so there's not much need in worrying about a bad smell. I could almost use it like an herbal Toppik since my hair is nearly the same color ;)

Whatever the hell, I think the ginger helped and it certainly didn't hurt anything.

But I need the base of proven remedies:
I plan to reorder again from Unitedpharm.
Debating between Fincar and Finpecia.

Which one?

Since they are both supposed to be finasteride, then if you're taking 1mg doses either way, it should be equally effective.

If money's an issue go with the Fincar.

I think I noticed better results using finpecia after only one month. However, I had been taking large doses of saw palmetto for 3 months prior. OCuld have helped it.

Fincar - I've been taking it almost 3 months I suppose and the improvement has been very marginal if there at all. I am going to give it up and try something else.

Anyone here try Finax? Does Dr. Reddy's group from lifepharm have better standards?

It will either be finax or finpecia for me. The Merck patent on the finasteride formula ends in June of 2006. That means we should be able to get generics in the US.

Should I add SP back to my regimen?

I really think that you should just stay with some sort of finasteride. The truth is that you probably won't see dramatic regrowth but it will help you maintain what you currently have, which is very important. I really do not think using a different "brand" of finasteride is going to make a difference on its effectiveness, unless of course the stuff was fake.

I have seen people claim that saw palmetto helped them but it is really your call on whether or not to start using it again.
