Check out this article from Curis (pdf).

Be patient if you have a slow connection as it's a 3MB file! But worth it if you're following Curis's Hedgehog gene research.

When you download the pdf, take a look at the backs of the mice in the experimental group. I hope our scalps end up being just as responsive to this gene therapy!

In my opinion, this is the single most promising gene therapy based research taking place that could lead to a "cure" for hair loss.

Initially I was going to read this, then I actually tried reading it and I didn't do so well with all the jargon. I did see the pics of the mice. Very impressive. I think that I recall mice growing hair in other experiments that ended up not being effective in humans though. Anyways this still looks impressive and has potential, I really really hope this is gonna work out!

I think it might work too well  and cause excessive body hair. A while ago, I read an article about problems with pre-clinical testing (testing of any kind). They mentioned a neurological study with Wyeth. Curis has partnered with Wyeth to develop the hedgehog for neurological disorders. Although, they never mentioned Curis or hedgehog, I think that's the drug that was being tested. One participant was injected with the drug and grew thick hair everywhere, including thick sideburns that persisted after the trial was over.

That kind of hair might be fine for you guys, but I couldn't handle that much waxing. I'd rather wear a wig, than have excessive amounts of body hair :P .

The topical treatment they are making for hair growth might not do the same thing, but even minoxidil causes some extra unwanted body hair.
5% minoxidil
Multivitamin with iron
