Lichen Planopilaris ?

Hi Sam, I read a previous post where you said you had Lichen Planopilaris. You've also indicated that even though you didn't think it was the topicals you used that caused it, you've stopped taking them just in case. Has this helped the Lichen Planopilaris? If it does, does that mean the topicals you've used caused it? Also, can you tell me how you initially found out about your condition? It might be premature worrying but I've seen a couple little red spots on my scalp where I apply xandrox and revivogen. Thank for your help!

You shouldn't worry about lichen planopilaris, from what I have been told it is quite rare.

As for my situation, I found out I had it when I noticed a small baldspot on my thigh and went ot see my dermatologist.

Unfortunately, stopping the topicals did not stop the lichen planopilaris of my legs, but interestingly, it seemed to greatly reduce the inflammation on my scalp.

I have learned that the lichen planopilaris was not caused in my case by any topicals. I know this because I found out that my father also has it. Genes...

Anyway, I can also take solace in the fact that my father's hair loss looks completely normal on the head and scalp, so I'm not really all that worried about losing my leg hair. Big deal.

So DON'T WORRY! It is very unlikely that you have LP. If your hair loss doesn't seem normal to you, then you should see your doctor first to help you get it diagnosed, and he or she may refer you to a dermatologist.

I have recently been diagnosed with LPP. I am devastated and having a hard time coping. My derm has me on Clobex Shampoo and Olux foam. Does anybody have any suggestions. Thanks, Monique

Sorry to hear that you've been diagnosed with LPP. Do you mind if I ask whereabouts you have it on your body? For me it's primarily on the legs.

Anyway, I have been told by a researcher that it can eventually "burn itself out". That is, after a while it can just stop.

I was prescribed Protopic for it myself. Mine seems to be under control.

Hi Sam,
I have LPP on my scalp which have made bald patches from the scarring. I have thick long hair so I am able to cover them for right now, but I am afraid what the future might hold. My derm said he looking into a med that is used for organ transplants because my body is rejecting my hair. Is that what of meds your on? Thanks, Monique

Hi Monique, so sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I have been away for a few days. Anyway, yes I think that's how Protopic works.

I strongly suggest you ask your derm about Protopic. Do you know the name of the medication that your derm is prescribing to you?

I' m still on the Clobex Shampoo and Olux Foam. I was told to alternate them every 2 weeks. It has stop the hairloss for right now but I'm afraid of whats going to happen when I go off them. I'm going to ask my Derm about the Protopic when I see him again. Thanks Monique

I'm glad the shampoo has stopped the hair loss for now for you. My own LPP doesn't seem to be really effecting my scalp anymore (thank God! and fingers crossed, but it seems to have just gone away in that area). However, it is still working its damage on my legs! I am going bald on my thighs... It sucks, but as long as it is only there that I'm having the problem and it doesn't spread I'm not overly worried about it.

Any news? Did you see your derm?

I've been to my regular derm and he still has me on the Shampoo and Foam. In 2 weeks I'm going to the Unn. of Penn. which is suppose to be the best for a second opinion. I'll keep you posted. Monique

Good luck Monique. I really hope you can get your lpp under control and hopefully completely eliminate it.
