Question for my son

My son is 19. Last month when he got a hair cut, i noticed that he had a bald spot about the size of a nickle on his head. since then, it has grown to about the size of a quarter, and now he has them all over the back , and the sides of his head. does anyone out there know what this could possibly be? i noticed also in the first one, lately , hair is growing back in the first one, but not solidly, just a thin circle of it , right in the middle of the bald spot. he has really dark hair so this is quite noticeable. he never wears hats, and now is forced to just because of embaressment.

There are several different types of hairloss and from what you have said it seems that he might have ALOPECIA AREATA. Rhondae, blueshard is right. It definitely sounds like alopecia areata. It may also be folliculitis decalvans, but alopecia areata is more probable. Yes, go see a dermatologist as soon as possible.
