You think a good IMMUNE system affects hairloss?

Post by kakarot »

Hey sorry for all these posts but Im just starting to get deep in this hair loss research for my sake and everyone elses. I was reading an article that said that (now correct me if im wrong) the immune system will attack certain hair follicles or blood lines in the scalp kinda like a body rejecting a organ transplant. Something like that the immune system is what causes hair to fall out cause for some reason I do not know. And here is the thing, I have NOT gotten sick in over 3 years. Im some sort of freak of nature. Ive been around many many sick people and just wont get sick. The closests Ive gotten to is probably a stuffy nose. And now Im thinking what if my strong immune system is actually my enemy against my hair.......just a thought......

hey im just adding this to the topic cause I dont want to create any more topics I feel like Im hogging the forum. But I was reading the types of hair loss and Im pretty convinced I have this type

Telogen effluvium 1
Telogen effluvium is a type of hair loss that occurs when hair follicles are shifted into the telogen (or resting) phase prematurely. It causes a general thinning of the hair. Telogen effluvium can be triggered by nutritional status, stress, medication, childbirth, febrile illness and surgical operation. This type of hair loss usually remits within 3-6 months after the 3 causes is removed.

My hair loss is not like Sams or any regular MPB patient, it actually looks like a combination of Telogen effluvium and MPB but more so on the Telogen efflovium side. If anyone knows what kind of treatments can be done to help telogen efflovium would help alot, I mean, if you read my other posts you will see my regime and you can judge yourself if I got the correct regime for these 2 types of hair loss. The most important thing I should do is get more nutrients and be more stress free. I will admit I have suffered from post traumatic disorder for many reasons in my life, and stress from college and finanicial bills doesnt help either. And I use to starve myself and eat once or twice a day due to depression but that phase of my life is over, I am not depressed as much and I eat ALOT more. So hopefully I can see good results within time. Thanks again I will get pics posted on here soon whenever I figure out the darn thing...

Kakarot,

Use these forums as much as you like, that's what they're here for and we appreciate your using them!

Telegon Effluvium is usually a temporary form of hair loss in that the hair that you've lost from it typically (but not always) eventually grows back.

As for the immunity thing. Immunity definitely can play a role in hair loss, especially if you have a form of Cicatricial Alopecia (which is also sometimes referred to as Scarring Alopecia), or Alopecia Areata. Cicatricial Alopecia is when the immune system actually kills the hair follicles leaving scar tissue. You normally can't see the scar tissue as it's underneath the epidermis (top layer of your skin) but hair loss of this form typically never grows back. In Alopecia Areata the hair that is lost can grow back once you get the underlying immune reaction under control (because the actuall hair producing cells, the dermal papilla, are not destroyed). In both cases, the pattern of loss is typically patchy and doesn't adhere to any type of pattern like in MPB.

Check out the following link to learn more about Alopecia Areata:

And check out the FAQ I'm putting together (although it's not completed) for general hair loss info. (If you have additional questions by all means let me know and I'll add them to the FAQ):

Sam is there any way I can stop or prevent Cicatricial Alopecia that you spoke of? I dont have the money to visit a hair specialist but just in case I have Cicatricial Alopecia Id like to know what kind of things to avoid getting it and controlling it. That would help alot cause there are certain parts of my hair, like my hair line, in which the hair aint growing back  and I think its cause my immune system is so strong its attacking my hair! And I dont feel like using anti immune products cause well I dont wanna get sick either! But hey, lemme know what i can do to prevent the whole scar tissue thing.

I don't think that Sam is saying that you have Cicatricial Alopecia or any sort of scarring alopecia. I think he was just trying to explain the part of the immune system in those types of hairloss. It seems to me like you are just a diffuse thinner.

Kakarot, I definitely was not trying to say that I think you have cicatricial alopecia! It's very unlikely that that is the case. I was just letting you know about types of hair loss where the immune system may be involved. If your doctor says its diffuse hair loss then that's probably what it is.

There are two types of androgenetic alopecia, MPB and FPB.

From the sounds of it, you may be in the FPB category. Take a look at the Ludwig Scale. Does that look like your situation?

UMmmm correct me if I am wrong but doesnt FPB mean Female Pattern baldness or something in which I AM A MALE and the Ludwig Scale shows a female going bald, and not to sound mean but the looking at the Ludwig scale was a scary image for me to see, I wish they woulda made a drawing like the Norwood scale, man I hope I dont have nightmares now. But no I have to disagree, I read the stuff on FPB and says its an overall thinning and the hairline remains in which my hairline is receding more then anything. I think the overall thinning is simply caused by something else, and perhaps the use of my topicals which cause my hair to shed even more. But honestly not to jump ahead of myself but ever since I started my scrict regime you see on the list, I have noticed progress and improvement in the hair thickness and even a little regrowth. I think in a few months I will know for sure, I took pics a week ago and in a few months I will take more pics and show you guys my progress. But yea, That was scary stuff man, and I aint a girl. Im sure you knew that though so you can correct me on my knowledge of FPB but I think I Just have a diffuse form of Male pattern baldness cause even Dr. Lee saw my pictures I took and said that himself, so the doctors usually right about things so I am gonna believe him instead. No offense, you are a great guy and I appreciate your knowledge and help, but now Im gonna do something to get my mind off that image. take care

Sorry man, didn't mean to scare you. MPB and FPB can occur in both men and women. I know a lot of guys that have the FPB form of hair loss, and some that have both.

Yeah, I knew you were a guy. Don't worry :)
