Post by kakarot »

Hey, I know your on so I want to ask you because I dont think you got my question in my other posts since I do posts alot of info. I heard that you do not use Minox, I am quite curious on the reason behind this because I am thinking that maybe minox is not for me considering ever since I started using minox I just been losing hair left and right. Thanks

I just from the beginning refused to use a "drug" and wanted to go the natural route. Now I understand some natural things can be very powerful and "dangerous"....but I think you know what I mean.

BTW..I don't take Saw Palmetto or Pumpkin Seed etc for the same reasons I don't take Propecia. Maybe there's no harm in taking them for long periods of time and maybe they can actually be healthy for you in the long run...but for now I'll pass.

I didn't mean to scare you :(

Saw Palmetto could be perfectly fine. If you do a search on it most places say there are no side-effects etc. But I have seen some post and others say that side effects can include those similar to what you'd get if you take propecia. This may all have to do with how each individual reacts to things. SP probably isn't as "powerful" as Propecia.. but for some it may work fine and others it may not do anything and/or may even produce side effects.

Beta-sitosterol is another one(it's in Saw Palmetto). From what I've read it seems it may work differently than the others- works on cholesterol and the prostate rather than "inhibiting" dht. Plenty of the foods I eat contain such sterols. But at the moment I'm not taking it in supplement form.

I guess I'd prefer to do things topically. Certain substances can "inhibit" dht if used topically. Others are growth stimulators. Etc etc.

Things I take internally are Krill oil...Q-gel...GliSODin...things mainly for overall health.

Hey Jacob, can I get the same affect from Fish Oil just like Krill oil, cause I heard someone say perhaps you said this, that some people take Fish Oil, so I went and got Fish Oil tablets. Figured that would help my cardiovascular and inflammation. I couldnt find Glisodin at the herbal store, not sure what it does but I got it from the list of things people say they take. I am not sure what exactly Saw Palmetto is, but I heard its a DHT inhibitor so why not. Its natural and proscar is something that is LAST on my list if I get desperate. Now, question being is this, do you not take Saw Palmetto cause does it require life time committment like Propecia? I dont want to start using Saw Palmetto and then run out and have super hair shed from it. I think Revivogen I am using would help prevent that but I at least want to be aware of all side affects and negative affects of every product I am using for my hair. Its good to know then not to know cause I dont want to make my hair loss worse....

Fish oil is fine...krill oil is unique in that it has a high level of phospholipids..absorbs so well. "Krill oil has a high concentration of EPA and DHA in a unique phospholipid form that makes them highly bioavailable for use in the brain and cell membranes throughout the body"
. It also has a very high ORAC value: http://www.neptunebiotech.com/1024/prod ... otency.pdf

Studies are out there including this one: http://www.neptunebiotech.com/800/produ ... _Study.pdf Notice the comparison to fish oil.

Here's some info I posted in another forum some time back. Hope it's not too boring:

"Dana Huckabay asks:
Some research has shown that fish oil provides protection from some problems, such as heart disease, but at the same time weakens the body's immune response. Eskimos (with a diet very high in fish), for example, were reported to have very few heart problems but much higher than average rates of infections. What is your opinion regarding the effect of fish oil on the immune system?

Dr. Barry Sears
This is why we use a blood test to determine the amount of fish oil a person should take. If you have an overactive immune system, as you do in inflammatory disease, then taking the higher levels of fish oil will dampen down that immune response.

Is it possible to dampen down that immune response too much? There is that possibility. That's why one of the blood tests we recommend in the book can provide, with great precision, the status of your immune system.

And that is why we choose the Japanese population, who are the longest lived individuals in the world and who also have the greatest amount of a healthy life span, as the ideal goal that you should try to strive for in taking your fish oil."

When the body has as much DHA as it needs, feedback inhibition stops further conversion. Without this inhibition, toxicity could result from excess DHA production. Let me give an example. An analysis of fish oil studies showed that too much fish oil increases inflammation due to the extreme sensitivity of DHA to damage caused by oxidative stress4. Giving n-3 in the more stable form of ALA is safer because it gives the body better metabolic control and prevents DHA overdosing. Some prominent Canadian health researchers have stated for more than 10 years that they prefer the basic n-3 ALA to fish oils because of this better metabolic control that ALA affords the body.

Fish Oil Supplements

The idea that fish oil supplements are beneficial and safe in any amount is erroneous. Some evidence indicates that too much fish oil can cause or aggravate illnesses. For example, overdoses can affect hormone levels in ways that may alter blood lipids and blood clotting and may even worsen Type II diabetes, and impair immune function. Even with a low dose supplement, one undesirable effect is elevated LDL cholesterol. Daily large (7 oz.) servings of fatty fish have also been observed to elevate LDL cholesterol for that matter. Another drawback is that fish oil supplements are made from fish skins and livers, which may have accumulated toxic concentrations of pesticides, heavy metals, and other ocean contaminants that may in turn be concentrated in the pills. In addition, fish oil supplements contains high levels of the two most potentially toxic vitamins A and D.

Another potential for harm from taking in too much fish oil may lie in the reactive nature of omega-3 fatty acids in the presence of a reactive form of oxygen. 0mega-3 acids are highly unsaturated and so are open to attack by reactive oxygen. This unstable chemical form is known as a free radical and is attracted to points of unsaturation. A reaction between the free radical and a fatty acid is dangerous to cells because it starts a chain reaction that destroys neighboring molecules. Such reactions can also attack a cells DNA, an action that may lead to some forms of cancer and lead to heart disease. When research subjects were given fish oil capsules, oxidative cell damage in their bodies increased by 122 percent. Vitamin E (1,200 IU) in high doses prevented the increase, but most supplements do not contain enough vitamin E to protect cells.

It seems less krill oil is needed compared to fish oil. I've just been taking one gelcap a day..as they recommend(take 2 a day the first month) so it's actually probably cheaper for me than some spend taking fish oil.

About the Saw Palmetto. There are two reasons really why I don't use it or other internals like it.

1) I prefer to go the topical route. Even when it comes to dht "inhibition"

2) This article sums up basically why I don't care to mess with it internally at the moment: http://www.mesomorphosis.com/articles/arnold/dht.htm
