Hi everyone,
I have been using topicals for a couple of years now, after took prop for a year and a half without real results. I use minoxidil 5%, Xandrox 5% and 15%, spiro 2%, folligen and Nizoral shampoo. My baldness is well under control but of course we always want to get more and better.
So...Yesterday I decided to formulate my own special solution. I bought a monthly pack of Avodart and squeezed 10 pills (they are gel caps) into a plain generic minoxidil 5%. It desperesed well since the avodart liquigel is lipophilic and melt mix well with alcoholic base. In addition I put 3 drops of oil of Rosmary (purifying and blood circulation enhancing), 3 drops of oil of Lavender (Soothing, anti-inflammatiory, smells great) and 3 drops of oil of tea tree (anti-fungous, disinfecting, anti inflammatory, and maybe DHT blocking similar to ketoconazol).
So now I got a special elixir that stimulates hair growth and block DHT and also smell nice (to me anyway!) Of course I will let you know how this treatment is going and if there's any change in my hair condition.
Love you all,
Eliaz
Formulated my own topical!

Hi Eliazush,
Very interesting combination! I once created my own topical conconction as well... didn't fair too well as it would go bad very quickly. But then I'm not a pharmacist so I was just mixing a bunch of stuff without knowing how well it all went together.
My own homemade concoction had 4% spironolactone, 2% green tea extract, 2% grape seed extract, 10% pure aloe vera gel, 15% emu oil. I even added phenytoin at one point.
Of course the percentages are based on overall volume of "stuff" as opposed to actual active ingredients as I had no way of measuring this.
It didn't smell very good at all.
Hopefully yours proves to be way better.
Cheers,
Sam

Hi Sam,
It's still early to tell, but I have noticed my shed had decrease. I started applying Eucapil a few weeks ago so it's really hard to tell which formulation is responsible for that. My scalp also feels healthier I think due to the tea tree oil that I have added to the minoxidil and also the nice smell of the essencial oils manages to desguise the offensive odor of spinronolactone. So it's another big plus. I apply spironolactone and after 10 or 20 minutes I apply my formulation of minoxidil.
I will keep sharing with you my progress.
Good luck,
Eliaz

Eliaz, have you checked out Dr. Yechiel's new Formulator service? Considering that you are a chemist yourself, what are your thoughts on it. If you haven't checked it out already give it a look. You can see which ingredients are available and how you can go about putting together your own custom formulation. I'm just curious what another chemist would think of this.eliazush wrote:Hi Sam,
