using toner in my topical

Post by messenger »

Does anyone think there would be a problem in using toner as a base/carrier for my topical?

My topical is Hair Muck, mixed with some zinc, hyaluronic acid, and l-cartinine. The toner is this one from Aubrey Organics: http://www.aubrey-organics.com/ProductI ... ductid=809

The ingredients to the toner are: Aubrey's Herbal Base: (Deionized Water, Natural Grain Alcohol, Witch Hazel [natural herbal extract], Vegetable Glycerin; the following whole herbals: Organic German Camomile Flowers, Organic Calendula Flowers, Organic Lavender Flowers, Organic Peppermint Leaf, Organic Coltsfoot Leaf and Organic Nettle Leaf; Extracts of Roman Camomile, Linden, Sage, Clematis, Coneflower, St. John's Wort, Watercress, Burdock Root, Lemon, Ivy, Soapwort, Meadowsweet, Bladderwrack, Horsetail, Blue Mallow, Pellitory Root, Cucumber, Elder Flower and Arnica; Aubrey's Preservative [Citrus Seed Extract, Vitamins A, C and E], Organic Lemon Peel Oil), Organic Aloe Vera; Lavender Water, Extracts of Fennel, Hops, Balm Mint, Mistletoe and Yarrow; Organic Blue Green Algae; Extracts of Grape Seed, Milk Thistle and Canadian Willowherb; Goa Herb.

So far it seems like it leaves my hair/scalp a lot less greasy than when I was mixing with ethyl alcohol. I also mix in some absorbine to aid in the absorbtion process and I like the sponge applicator. It seems like it's all good stuff, and might be useful to someone if they are sensitive to alcohol (the grain alcohol is a lot less drying to the skin than other kinds). However, it's got a lot of ingredients and I'm not sure what all of them do to hair. If anyone spots any ingredient in here which is really harmful to hair though please let me know.

They've really been pushing that OOKSIA or whatever... probably sold a sh*tload of it, too.

Personally, If I'm just experimenting, I'll use aloe juice as my water and one of the old bottles I've got lying around of "ancient Chinese tonic" as my ethanol. However, if I'm making a serious topical (such as when my Operation: Deep Cover skills netted me a few milligrams of TB4), I'd rather not risk having something unknown in one of these toner/tonics cancelling out my focal ingredient and subsequently my investment.

As mentioned, Joe would be the guy to talk to, though.

Just my humble opinion but I would start by first not putting anything on your scalp for a few days to a week. I think you may be making conclusions about alcohol that may or may not be true.

Then I would drop the HA because I have no idea what that is doing to drop the PH. Too much acidic stuff can cause irritation obviously. I would mix up some super zix II with half the alcohol and give that a try. If that is still too harsh then cut the alcohol in half again.

My guess is that you may be fine with alcohol but maybe not quite as high a concentration. Continue that routine for awhile then if you insist on adding other things do so one at a time with a good enough interval of time to make sure the added ingredient doesn't cause irritation.

Hope this helps. Joe
