Question about Proscar and Propecia difference?

Hey everyone, its me Kakarot. I am now using for my regime the following...

Xandrox 15%

Crinagen

Multivitamins

Nizoral shampoo (sometimes t gel)

I gave up on using Rogaines 5% cause it makes my scalp itch so I believe Im allergic to certain ingredients in there. I am thinking about just getting a minox 5% to use with the Xandrox. And possibly dr lee's spiro cream or revivogen to replace crinagen.

But the main question is this, I got a prescription for propecia but I fear that my insurance wont cover it and I will have to pay a big chunk of change to get my hands on it. I heard from someone on here that they got a prescription of Proscar instead and their insurance covered most of it. That I need, but if there any big difference in Propecia and Proscar? Any Pro's or Con's? One better then the other? Id like to know, thanks!

I am currently using Proscar and to my knowledge there is no difference whatsoever between Proscar and Propecia just the quantity (mg) of medication contained within each pill. Proscar is 5mg and was initially used for BPH - those with prostate problems. Proscar tablets can be cut into 4 quarters and each quarter will do the same thing 1 Propecia tablet would do ... plus it's a lot cheaper. I don't know how your insurance plan works but if you can prove or have your doctor approve supposed prostate problems, then i'd imagine you'll be covered.

I have never had a problem getting a prescription for Proscar. Didn't even have to suggest that it say the prescription was for BPH. The doc just wrote up a prescription for the Proscar and that was that.

agreed. you should have no problems getting the actual prescription but instead, trying to get yourself covered under your insurance plan

Hey I dont have a problem getting a prescription, I just want my insurance to cover it and I am convinced that Proscar is more likely to be covered by my insurance. Its not a matter of prescription but money. Thanks people for the info

Kakarot, if you get a prescription for Proscar from your doctor, and he doesn't explicitly indicate that it's for hair loss, I think your insurance co. will probably cover it. But I'm in Canada where the healthcare system is totally different. I haven't heard of anyone in the US being rejected though, and I do have friends in the US who use Proscar for hair loss and have it covered by their insurance.

My insurance covers it except for a $25 Co-Pay. So I spend $75 a year for my Finasteride.
