I have just received 300 new modules from AixiZ (standard 650nm 5mW with 3.5-4mW output power). The current consumption is only about 13-14mA for each module. This seems very low compared to what other reports (OMG says about 30mA, ApacheIndian at regrowth measured 20-30mA etc). I know there has been a lot of fuzz about AixiZ diodes getting too hot/burning out. I'm now a bit worried that AixiZ has changed the type of laser diode (from 5mW to e.g a 2mW) to prevent this. Has anybody else noticed such low current consumption?
Maybe AixiZ just sent me wrong modules but I don't think so. I would like to check the actual optical power output. Anybody know how to measure the actual optical power output of a laser diode?

I think there are a few members that have some of these sensors already. I'd hate to offer their services but perhaps you can mail them one and they can test it for you. Anyone?

Or if you want to go it alone and don't want to spend the big bucks this sensor on eBay is only $25 and only requires a 9 volt battery and a digital multimeter.

Is there someone in this forum who can/will measurre the optical power ouput of a few modules for me (10 modules will give a fair indication of the mean value). Naturally I will pay for this service

Wait, does this mean the Aixiz lasers are no good anymore? I'm about to purchase 200 of the little beauties so I want to make sure they are what they are meant to be!

I would just give them a call. They respond really slow to emails. They are really nice and will field any questions.

AixiZ diodes have a history of burning out anywhere between 3-12 months ..

So you might want to be careful with any big investments.

If they burn out can't you just send them back and they replace them?

The only reason I am going with Aixiz diodes is because they have a history of getting results.

Anyone ever recieved that gurantee in writing??

Or is it just made up of nice words, until Aixiz decides otherwise (when the load of replacements are too big to be profitable)

FYI I have just received an email from AíxiZ. They offer to replace my modules which I think is extremely good service. However I would recommend all to check a small quantity of received modules and report the mean value in this forum. I think this issue is very relevant and could possible explain some of the varying results people experimence.
I should mention that I have used a selfmade device containing 20x50mW diodes for about 5 month. The result have been faily good but I would like to try out the 5mW diodes everyone is talking about. At first I got 300 modules from Yonghong Optics. The diodes from Yonghong Optics had however only 1,5mW output power even though the specs claimed 5mW. Asking Gram Ni (from Yonghong Optics) about this he explains that the diode driver is 5 mW and not the diode itself. I therefore decided to buy 300 modules from AixiZ instead and to my surprise the current draw were equivivalent to the modules from Yonghong Optics.

Anyone interested in a.m. mentioned modules from Yonghong Optics ;-) - 250 USD for 300 pcs (never used except for the few tested)

LaCie, have you not even given the 300 diodes from Yonghong a testrun?

If they give a good sensation in the scalp after use, I would not be surprised that they will deliver results.

LaCie, how did the Yonghong diode compare to the Axiz one in term of mW output?

I haven't given the Yonghong modules a testrun but I guess your right - I will do that. I have not measured the actual optical power output since I haven't got an optical power meter (it is therefore I asked if someone in this forum could do this for me).

LaCie, Zixcreator has the device to do that but I dont think he will, since he is recommending diodes from Aixiz.

As far as I remember the Yong Hong diodes has a larger brass dimension, are they significantly more heavy than 7x13mm?
