Can I use Proscar instead of Propecia? If so how?
You should know that of the two Finasteride-containing drugs, Proscar and Propecia, only Propecia is approved specifically for treating hair loss in the form of Androgentic Alopecia. That being said, there are doctors that are willing to prescribe Proscar, off-label, for treating hair loss.
Proscar contains 5mg of Finasteride, whereas Propecia contains only 1mg. Most people that choose to use Proscar instead of Propecia will cut the pill into quarters with a pill-cutter, and use one quarter pill of Proscar per day effectively getting approximately 1.25mg of Finasteride per quarter-pill.
