What hormones are possibly involved in AGA?
In androgenetic alopecia dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is the hormone which triggers the initiation of the miniaturization process that leads terminal healthy hair to gradually become vellous and virtually unnoticeable. Testosterone may also be involved to a degree, but DHT is the primary culprit. Castrated men who do not produce testosterone or DHT do not suffer from pattern hair loss.
