Tricomin Review -- Follicle Therapy Spray, Shampoo and Conditioner
Tricomin Follicle Therapy Spray is one of the only products that has been shown to stimulate hair growth in clinical trials. It can be used by both men and women. The component purported to be responsible for its effectiveness is what the maker of the product, Procyte Inc., calls Triamino Copper Nutritional Complex - basically it's a complex of specific copper peptides.
Tricomin fits into the class of treatments called Super-Oxide Dismutases, or SODs, for shorts. SODs were all the rage several years back, and there is at least one other product that uses copper peptides, called Folligen on the market, but Tricomin is the only SOD-based hair loss product that has clinical trials backing up its claims. SODs are a class of potential hair loss treatments separate from growth stimulators like Minoxidil and DHT inhibitors or anti-androgens like Propecia or Spironolactone.
The Tricomin spray is used as a topical, with the instructions saying that you can use it on a dry or wet scalp. It comes in a see-through bottle and is clearly a sky blue liquid. A quick check of the ingredients shows that the color comes from an artificial color added to the solution. Not a big deal.
Aside from the Follicle Therapy Spray, which is the only Tricomin product that has been shown to have efficacy in treating hair loss, there are 3 other products: Tricomin Revitalizing Shampoo, Tricomin Restructuring Conditioner, and Tricomin Conditioning Shampoo. All of these products also contain the copper peptides.
Now for a review. I have been using the Follicle Therapy Spray once a day for just over a month now every morning after I shower. I only use it in the crown area, along with other items that are in my treatment regimen. I have nothing to report in the way regrowth because I haven't been using it very long and also because my current regimen, not even including the Tricomin, is about as good a regimen as you can have. What I can report though is that the combination of all of the treatments in my regimen, including the Tricomin, has made my scalp healthier than it has been in a long time. I have read that copper peptides are useful in healing wounds, and I think there may even be a slight anti-inflammatory effect that I am seeing from the Tricomin, but I'm not certain. Overall, I think it is making a good addition to my regimen from the standpoint of covering all the bases of possible useful treatments out there. The spray also acts as a conditioner and absorbs relatively quickly, leaving the hair in good shape.
I really like all of the shampoo and conditioner products in the line. The Conditioning Shampoo reminds me of Nioxin, both in smell (smells very minty) and in texture. I really like this shampoo. Leaves the scalp feeling great. The Revitalizing Shampoo has a herbal smell; my wife likes it very much. And the Restructuring Conditioner is excellent; thickens the hair quite nicely. Don't expect any of the shampoos or the conditioner to regrow any hair, but they are great products nonetheless and complement the Follice Therapy Spray well.
Overall I am quite happy with the product line, and I would recommend the Follicle Therapy Spray as an adjunct to any good hair loss treatment regimen if you want the extra insurance of an SOD-based treatment.
