Question:

What are ASCJ products and why might they become important in the treatment of MPB?

Answer

They are a group of novel anti-androgens being investigated by the Androscience Corporation in San Diego. ASCJ products have the potential of being safe and very effective topical medications for defeating the action of DHT in the scalp. ASCJ is synthesized from a natural product and promotes the degradation of endogenous androgen receptors. This pharmacological mechanism differs completely from all currently available anti-androgens. In laboratory tests, topically applied testosterone induced inhibition of the hair cycle progression with prolongation of the telogen phase 50% of the time in the mouse model. Whereas anagen conversion was achieved in 100% of the mice given testosterone followed with ASCJ-9. The researchers concluded, These preliminary observations suggest that ASCJ-9 is a potential candidate for effective and safe topical treatment of acne and male pattern baldness.*

Currently, AndroScience is conducting GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) toxicology and accumulating other preclinical data in order to file an IND (Investigational New Drug application) and proceed to Phase I and II clinical studies.

Jacob, thought you may be particularly interested in this since it says ASCJ is "senthesized from natural products", although I'm not sure exactly what that means...

Fred has been hinting about something like this to add to his product..but I doubt it's this one(still being tested etc).

As for it being synthesized from a natural product..I've read that can be quite natural or not..depending on what is being synthesized and how it's done. I'm sure Dr. Y could make more sense of it than I could

I think most if not all drugs are synthesized from a natural product or that's how they got their beginnings...

Matt...is it something that one can obtain then? Or at least somebody like Dr Y could? I'm looking to replace the gte in my custom topical..with something else. Main reason being the color of the topical..but maybe taking just gte out won't do the trick.

Well, I guess if Dr Y wanted to infringe on patents he could have

[5-hydroxy-1,7-bis(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-1,4,6-heptatrien-3-one]
synthesized and used in a topical.....

Why would it infringe on patents if he had it in the Formulator list? The Formulator is for all types of applications..not just hairloss.

Caffeine would be an example...unless I'm wrong about there being a patent for it's use...or if it's expired. Might be other examples too.

Are you using the Formulator? Also, any new info on this ASCJ stuff? I'm sure you've probably done some digging around on it since I posted Dr. Lee's article on it...
