Found this article on wall street journal. Vitamin D being a key player in regrowing hair. Don't know what to think about this new research direction.

Times like this I wish Dr. Yechiel or someone would be around to comment on it. Interesting read though 8)

Alopecia and psoriasis are conditions of the skin that can either cause hair loss, dryness, or inflammation. ErgoD2™ HSN contains high levels of vitamin D and Ergothioneine to treat the cellular damage caused by these conditions.
That particular product will be prescription only..according to them.

Same company has this: http://www.mygroh.com/
GROH™ combines the essential amino acid L-ergothioneine, vitamin D2, over 3,000 enzymes, bionutrients and antioxidants into one all-natural, safe and effective whole food supplement
Looks to be the mushroom extracts that contain it..don't see the ingred listed separately. But look at the SuperSmart link below for how expensive the "pure" ingred is :shock:

http://www.naturalproductsinsider.com/a ... ritis.aspx
What makes this antioxidant unique is its tissue specificity and long half-life, around 30-days, according to Bernie Lands, Oxis International president and owner of patented synthesis process for ergothioneine.

Antioxidant specificity will be a major trend in the industry—and ergothioneine is leading the way. For instance, glucoraphanin found in cruciferous vegetables shows specificity for the skin and connective tissues. Once in the target tissue, glucoraphanin enhances expression of glutathione-S-transferase, helping to boost glutathione levels. (Biochem J. 1995 Oct 15;311(Pt 2):453-9; and Mol Carcinog. 2011 Jun;50(6):479-86.)

it neutralises reactive oxygen molecules (free radicals), thus combatting oxidative stress and reducing damage to mitochondrial DNA, oxidation of proteins and lipid peroxidation;
- it chelates – or traps – various positive metallic cations;
- it can activate antioxidant enzymes such as glutathione peroxidase or SOD, while inhibiting enzymes that generate the superoxide radical ;
- it reduces oxidation of various haemoproteins such as haemoglobin and myoglobin
- it protects mitochondria ;
- it reduces the harmful effects of UV rays ;
- it preserves and maintains levels of other antioxidants such as vitamins C and E, glutathione and SOD;
- it protects the brain from neurotoxins and thus plays a preventive role against cognitive decline ;
- it encourages cellular respiration and fat lipolysis, thus increasing energy and stamina for physical exercise;
- and finally, when combined with hyaluronic acid, glucosamine, collagen and cat’s claw, it was shown to significantly reduce joint pain and increase joint mobility, associated in particular with poor postural work habits, after just six weeks’ use.

Hi Jacob,

the ingredient look interesting. I have never mix my own potion which is quite exciting except for oil blends..

Are you going to use this? How are you going to incorporate it in your regimen?

I will probably use either the Groh or just one of the D/Ergo combos. I would also like to use it topically.

I'm drinking a drinkable version of aloe vera which contains a lot of vitamin D, and I'm also drinking Omega 3 every day, and for sure, my hairs looks softer, healthier, and no more irritation at all. (I didn't expect that). So I'm pretty sure vitamin D as something to do with that, combined with Omega 3.

I think Mark/Israelite drinks aloe vera..which reminds me of a discussion we had in a forum that has since shut down. Wish I could access the thread and the links we had posted there :evil:

Unless that GROH and even the D/Ergo combos go on sale..I think I'm going to take this for awhile instead: http://www.bioag.com/buyhealthproducts/ ... hroom.html or their new site http://www.wujinsan.us/store/#ecwid:cat ... ct=7758881

Price includes shipping. So much cheaper. Notice they both contain the same mushroom ingreds(I've numbered the ones that are the same in each product)....and then the Fauna Mana product contains 2 others and other goodies..

GROH:
_1_Pleurotus eryngii, _2_Hypsiszygus mamoreus,_3_ Cordyceps militaris,_4_ Grifola fondosa, _5_Trametes versicolor,_6_ Ganoderma lucidum (reishi) & naturally enriched vitamin D2 (Ergocalciferol).
Fauna Mana:
Proprietary, performance-tested strains of Certified Organically U.S.A. Grown Mushrooms in descending order:_3_ Dong Cao (Cordyceps Militaris), _6_ Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum), Himematsutake (Agaricus Blazei), _5_ Turkey Tail (Trametes Versicola), Nui Chang Chih (Antrodia camphorata), _1_King Trumpet (Pleurotus eryngii), _4_Maitake (Grifola Frondosa), and _2_ Brown Beech (Hypsizygus Marmoreus).

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) - 500 mg

Green tea (Camellia Sinensis) - 500 mg

Humic/Fulvic blend - 250 mg
It also says there:
U.S. Organically grown mushrooms are a known super food high in L-Ergothioneine...

Jacob the Fauna Mana looks very good ingredients wise. Green tea with its packful of antioxidants should really be beneficial for the hair.

I take brown mushrooms almost everyday in my foods.

I am also really motivated to change my diet to one more supercharged with proteins.

I am also thinking of taking green tea in tablet/ supplement form.. I will update if I do and see what difference it makes.

I see the Groh shampoo..or is it conditioner... is available now: http://tinyurl.com/lv3p5qt

$72 :shock: I suppose if your hair is short enough you could really make it go a long ways..just try to hit the scalp. Their skin topical could probably be used in it's place: http://www.amazon.com/GROH%C2%AE-Ergo-B ... 07Q2DM2S//

Maybe this is too easy - what about breaking open a vesisorb d3 capsule and applying to scalp or add to shampoo

It probably wouldn't hurt..and may actually work..but I would think such tech made for topical use would be the best route. Not sure how it would mix up in a shampoo..and it may destroy the delivery system anyway.

I like that Groh line..just wish it would go on sale or something.

For sure it won't hurt to add more vitamin D to ones diet but you are seriously thinking it can stop a hair loss of the kind of Alopecia, i dont think so
It could help with a seasonal hairloss or something

Have a look at this post
http://www.prevention.com/beauty/beauty ... -hair-loss

it basically says that vitamin d Deficency causes hairloss
so if the hairloss is due to that than a vit D supplement will sotp the hairloss
We all have to understand the reason behind the hairloss to find the best remedy
It reminds me of the super formulas of supplements claiming they can cure any type of hairless with 1 tablet :D

I'm more interested in the topical use of it after seeing that one- http://damychem.com/support/view.html?idx=62

But even that isn't going to be our cure on it's own..of course.

Saw one of the products at Amazon that had the ingreds listed..but that was it.

I thought they had discontinued that biotic line: http://www.kerastase.com.hk/en-hk/hair- ... ombination but I guess they kept the shampoo(or my browser isn't allowing me to see the rest..they do still talk about a 3-step system). The concentrate/tubes and shampoo were some of the best products I've ever used. May go back to the shampoo...

I really like the biotic concentrate as well.
