I'm curious if any of you are thinking of mixing your own topical melatonin with the latest study showing that it is effective for hair loss.

I'm thinking about it, but I'm pretty lazy. Also, I just added something new to my hair loss regimen. So, I'm waiting 4 months to see if I notice any improvement from the new thing.

Hey my_username,

I was just reviewing some older messages in the forum and came across this thread again, and realized that I didn't ask you what new treatment you added! I'm not sure if it's listed in your signature.

No, I didn't add it to my signature. I'm taking .5 mg of Propecia. I know that's supposed to be for men only, but I've heard of some women who've had success with it. I've been taking it for almost 2 months now. No side effects. I'll take it for 4 more months and assess if it's doing any good or not. For now, it's not doing any harm.

Obviously you've given this a fair amount of thought considering the risks for women who decide to use finasteride. When you say no side effects, mean no observed side-effects right? There could be effects you're not aware of... I guess the main concern is the effect it can have on a developing fetus right?

I'm very interested in hearing whether you think it's working for you after several months of use.

Do you know of a lot of women using it these days?

Regards,
Sam

Sam,

I will definitely let you know if I think it has helped or not. I'll judge after I've used it for 6 months. I have one child already and won't be having anymore. I do know of quite a few women who are using propecia. Only one has regrown a full head of hair, but it may be that she's an excellent responder to minoxidil.

Some endocrinologists will prescribe propecia or proscar for women, but most dermatologists won't. Usually it's prescribed for hirstutism for women.
