NDGA - Nordihydroguaiaretic Acid

Post by Jacob » Thu Mar 04, 2010 12:45 am

I've posted about this product before..maybe at Regrowth: http://antiaging-systems.com/a2z/acf228.htm

One of the ingreds is NDGA - Nordihydroguaiaretic Acid.http://geronova.com/content/ndga-nordih ... retic-acid
This special free-radical scavenger quenches down-line metabolites such as radicalized fatty acids, and thus it protects the essential building blocks of all cells.
Down further:
Hair growth

NDGA reduces new hair growth and irritation from hair removal.
Which didn't sound good..but then they're talking about body/facial hair. Down further:
Anti-Acne

NDGA reduces the amount of sebum available to nourish bacteria or plug pores and helps clear visible blemishes.
From the LEF forum: http://forum.lef.org/default.aspx?f=35&m=64707

An earlier study was published conducted by Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; The Ben May Institute for Cancer Research; and The Tang Center for Herbal Medicine Research, University of Chicago which demonstrated a direct inhibition of 5α-reductase type I, which can prevent the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It has been well documented that DHT is the primary cause of androgenic alopecia among other androgen-dependent disorders such as prostate cancer. The study states (paraphrased):

"Certain natural products contain components that are inhibitors of 5α-reductase. Some compounds were more effective inhibitors of the type 1 isozyme, including nordihydroguaiaretic acid NDGA among others"
This STUDY lists the radical scavenging ability of NDGA. In some ROSs, NDGA was more efficient than the more common antioxidants: lipoic acid, N-acetyl-cysteine and glutathione.

As a antioxidant for skin, This STUDY states NDGA was 100 times more potent than vitamin E, 15 times more potent than vitamin C and twice as active as epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG).

For life span-enhancement, in an very early STUDY NDGA extended the lifespan of the mosquito by up to 64%. In a more recent 2008 STUDY NDGA demonstrated a modest increase in mice lifespan.
See the link/forum...each STUDY can be clicked on..to see the studies.

got an email from them,

Thank you for your inquiry. The recommended dosage is one tablet one to three times daily dependingon your requirements. If you are unsure about dosage we must suggestthat you seek the guidance of a physician.

I think I'd stick to one a day

The thing I'm more interested in trying at the moment is some product that contains NT Factor. Dr. Ronald Hoffman seems to endorse it(may or may not impress anybody): http://www.drhoffman.com/page.cfm/752

Company website: http://www.ntfactor.com/ Also available at Iherb etc(there is more than one product containing it btw). Other companies include it in their formulas: http://www.prohealth.com/mitochondria_i ... factor.htm

Guys I bought a bottle of this stuff way back in 1994 from a co. called GERO VITA INTERNATIONAL out of Reno, NV . ( They are in Canada now . I wonder why ? ) This co. scent out miracle vitamin catalogs all over the states . Back then the sails pitch was the main ingredients was from a rear cactus in Arizona . Its the same stuff with the same name . Thy may have improved it with other things but the sticker on the bottle is the very same . It was $45 back then . Just thought I would let you all no .

Are you referring to just the NDGA ingred or the the combo product in the first post? I did a quick search at Gero Vita and nothing is coming up. The company with that combo product is based in the UK- GB...so maybe they've really moved

NDGA seems to be a legitimate ingred..if I read it right Dr. Lippman has the patent on it's use as a supplement...so that's probably why it's not out there like everything else. BUT..like I said..I'm more interested in the NT Factor products at the moment.

Its the same label and name . The only ingredient I remember came from a rear cactus from Arizona but the name and label was on the same bottle I bought back in 94 and It stated back then that it was a was a fountain of youth miracle vitamin full of antioxidants . Ma by they changed it scents then who nows . Actually I just thrown the bottle away a couple month's ago . I bought it the same time as my GH3 from them and I still have that . It expired in 2/97 so I guess it was about time .
