Phil's story

Post by younghairloss » Sat Nov 10, 2012 9:45 pm

Hi everyone,

I started losing my hair when I was 19 years old. At first, I was in denial. I thought maybe it was my diet or maybe I was too stressed. I couldn't think of anyone in my family who was bald so I figured it just wasn't possible. Eventually I asked my doctor and he told me straight up that it was MPB. I was devastated. I tried treating it with propecia, but I had awful sexual side effects, some of which were really terrifying. Thankfully, these side effects did not linger after I stopped taking it, like they do for some people. In the end, I broke down and got out the clippers, shaving off my remaining hair many years later. I had given up on treatment and I could no longer hide from it.

This turned out to be the best decision I ever made in my life. I thought things would get worse as I'm skinny and pale, but shaving my head had a liberating effect. I felt empowered and it boosted my confidence. I finally felt like I had control again. How incredible it is to wake up every day and not have to think about my thinning hair!!!! I hope all guys realize that they are not doomed if they start losing their hair, nor do they have to be a slave to treatments. There is another option out there and it just might change your life.

I've always been tempted to try that...just for the heck of it. It'd have to be next summer if I do now though :D
