Many doctors won't prescribe propecia or avodart to female hair loss patients because there is no FDA trial to support that either of these drugs will grow hair for women. And, both of these drugs can not be safely taken by pregnant women due to birth defects to male fetus.
But, will your doctor one day prescribe Avodart (dutasteride) for PMS symptoms? Maybe. There is a Phase II clinical study underway for this very purpose.

I know this isn't hair-related specifically, but I thought it was interesting anyway.
