2010 NutrAward Winners (VitaPQQ)

Post by Jacob » Tue Mar 23, 2010 10:19 pm

The 2010 Best New Ingredient NutrAward was awarded to Cereboost™, an American ginseng extract (patent pending) by Naturex.

The 2010 Best New Finished Product was awarded to Quality of Life Labs for VitaPQQ, pyrroloquinoline quinine.
Info/source for the latter:
For the finished product category, VitaPQQ™, won for the ingredient PQQ from Maypro Industries. Manufactured using a unique patented process by MGC Inc. in Japan, the ingredient PQQ is marketed in North America by Maypro and is now backed by several clinical studies and by over 175 PubMed listed published studies.
Studies have demonstrated in animal models that PQQ can improve the number and function of the mitochondria and can protect mitochondria from damage. Similar compounds such as resveratrol which have been shown also in animal studies to have a similar mode of action as PQQ pertaining to mitochondrial biogenesis, have generated significant sales in the supplement industry and have become subject of research by major pharmaceutical companies.

PQQ has been discovered to have neuroprotective, nerve growth factor enhancing, and
antioxidant effects. Recent experimental research has confirmed improved brain functions
such as enhanced memory and discrimination capabilities in both rats and humans. It has
also been found that these effects are increased when PQQ is used in combination with the
coenzyme Q10. PQQ therefore has potential as an entirely new type of brain food.
