Whey Protein Improves Heart Health

Post by Jacob » Sun Aug 30, 2009 4:27 pm

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/artic ... ealth.aspx
A whey-protein-rich ingredient may improve blood vessel function in healthy individuals, reports a new randomized, double-blind study.

Two weeks of supplementation resulted in a 1.5 percent improvement in blood flow. According to the researchers, the whey protein-derived ingredient may work via an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE)-inhibitory activity.

ACE inhibitors work by inhibiting the conversion of angiotensin I to the potent vasoconstrictor, angiotensin II, thereby improving blood flow and blood pressure.
The Many Health Benefits of Whey Protein

Whey protein, which is available as a protein powder supplement, has been linked to a variety of health benefits, such as:

*

Helping your pancreas-produced insulin work more effectively, which helps maintain your blood sugar level after a meal
*

Promoting healthy insulin secretion
*

Helping to promote your optimal intake of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals needed for your overall wellness
*

Supporting your immune system, as it contains immunoglobulins
*

Helping you preserve lean body tissue (particularly during exercise) as it delivers bioavailable amino acids and cysteine
*

Maintaining blood pressure levels that are already within the normal range

This latest study adds to the last benefit listed above, as it found that supplementation with the whey-derived peptide NOP-47 had a positive impact on vascular function in healthy people. Blood flow in the arm improved by 2.7 percent per minute following whey protein supplementation, but did not change for those in the control group who took a placebo.

Never tried this..but did try their other whey gourmet products. Some of the best I've tasted. One other thing I like to look for is one with less fat/cholesterol..which this one is:

Their other natural line. Notice this one does have the fat/cholesterol:

Looks like it might be the Actinos ingredient the article is referring to that gave the benefits. Here's a product that contain it(dang artificial sweetners):

Thanks Jacob for all the whey products. As far as mixing the powder, I use soy milk. What else would you suggest mixing in the whey? Also are you a body builder? Runner? I am a huge runner myself....

I can't tolerate soy..so for me it's usually just water..or rice or coconut milk if needed to help with the taste. I'd always use coconut milk if it weren't so expensive.

I'm a builder of my body 8)

Looks good..for a concentrate. The cholesterol amount isn't too bad. Like the addition of the herbal ingreds:
Endura-Herb Power Complex™ containing a specific selection of the world's finest and most potent herbs (Russian Rhodiola Root, Caucasus Mountain Blueberry Leaf, Horse Chestnut Herb, Magnolia Bark) and nutrative fruit extracts well known for their power antioxidant properties (Pomegrante Fruit, Cherry Fruit, Nectarine Fruit, Apple Skin).

Wonder how much of 'em is really in it though.

Some of those listed above are "cold processed" as well..which seems to be one of their big selling points.

I wish this and other places offered samples or the ability to order just a packet or 2 cheaply..to try 'em out.

Jacob, what do you say about the claims being made by some people that raising IGF-1 levels will increase balding? Also, do you think increasing HGH is bad for hair? Will it increase DHT?

I would say it probably depends upon the person..and how much it's being raised. I think HGH topically would be the way to go(for hair)...because of the potential hGH problems with injections and even other ways of increasing it.

Just saw that miracle whey and it looks pretty good. His "Pro-Optimal" whey looks great but comes at a premium price. For me I am trying to find the most cost-effective solution. Namely a good whey source at a great price.

That nanopro looks pretty good. On amazon.com they have the 1.2 lb for $35. Not bad as I think that is 30 servings.

I had knowledge about whey protein for increasing your muscles but reading for the first time that this can also improve heart health. This was nice information for me though. Thank you for posting this online.
