Prostabel- promotes the health of prostate cells

Post by Jacob » Fri May 15, 2009 8:30 pm

Looking into other prostate health/protecting products besides the usual Saw Palmetto..Beta-Sitosterol...Pygeum..(as well as Heavy Metal chelating- Modified Citrus Pectin, Detoxamin, etc- see the Heavy metal thread) etc, this one caught my interest. http://www.natural-source.com/engl/prostabel.php Even talk of it's use for prostate cancer. They sent me a nice folder full of info on their products, mostly on Prostabel. And no, it isn't cheap [-(
Directly inspired by Mirko Beljanski‘s 50 years of research in biochemistry and molecular biology, Prostabel® is an innovative and all natural blend of Pao Pereira (Pau Pereira) and Rauwolfia vomitoria extracts (2) that specifically promotes the health of prostate cells, an essential factor in maintaining normal prostate function.*

Pao pereira supports the body’s natural defense system, creating the conditions for normal physiological functioning and, to some extent, reinforcing the immune system’s natural ability to eliminate or neutralize undesirable cells (3).* Rauwolfia vomitoria, by combating the interference of aggressive and toxic substances, has a protective effect on cells, promoting healthy cellular regulation, particularly when the hormonal system is challenged (4). *
The guy behind the company- "Mirko Beljanski has published 133 peer-reviewed research publications, many of which are available online at http://www.PubMed.gov. More on him and "the Beljanski approach" here: http://www.beljanski.com/eng/index.html

They do have one clinical trial going on at the moment: http://www.natural-source.com/engl/research_phase1.php (their one using POM is still open..if anyone knows of anyone..)
We are pleased to share with you that a clinical trial sponsored by Natural Source International, Ltd. focusing on men with elevated PSA levels is currently underway at Columbia University. Under the direction of Aaron Katz, MD, Director of the Center for Holistic Urology at Columbia University, and a well-known pioneer in the field of natural treatment for prostate problems, the clinical trial is measuring the efficacy of Prostabel® in lowering PSA levels.

This trial is for men with negative prostate biopsy and elevated PSA, with the goal of helping men lower their PSA levels.
More on that trial: http://www.holisticurology.columbia.edu ... tabel.html

I did do a search for the active ingredients, and they are available elsewhere. I haven't looked into the quality issues, or even price comparisons. Heck..I'm still not done reading the info they sent, or what all is on their webpages :-s

This is probably the best page on it: http://www.beljanski.com/eng/beljanski/Prostabel.pdf

A bit cheaper here: http://www.netriceuticals.com/listing.asp?id=793

One source for one of the extracts- Pao Pereira: http://www.tropilab.com/paopereiratincture.html
Pao Pereira is a tree from the Amazon rainforest. The extract seems to effectively suppress the proliferation of HIV, herpes viruses, cancer and leukemia cells
Effective in preventing prostate cancer and/or reducing PSA levels*.
Used in the treatment of malaria; to boost the immune system. Can be useful in combating Aids and herpes.
Alkaloids from Pao Pereira have the same toxic effect against certain cancer cells; however with no such effect on normal cells.
Pao Pereira also inhibits replication of the Herpes simplex virus genome.
It crosses the blood-brain barrier easily and attaches itself to potential cancer cells.
The alkaloids carry a risk of toxicity only in cases of overdose and have no side effects.
The tincture can be applied to all types of disease involving immunodeficiency and can be used as a synergistic adjunct therapy alongside chemo- and radiotherapy in many forms of cancer.
Flavopereirine exerts a selective inhibition action on viral HIV infection, particularly in patients infected by HIV-1; providing a method for the treatment of Human Immunodeficiency Virus.
Shows promise for treating low-grade prostate cancer and preventing the onset of metastatic disease** and/or reducing the doubling time of PSA levels in men with positive biopsies; showing relatively low Gleason scores and morphologies characteristic of non-invasive, slow-progressing prostate cancer.

Researchers are investigating its potential to promote cellular health within various tissues. The most promising work is being done with regard to the prostate, but research shows benefit within other tissues as well.
