recommendation for hair transplant doctor in new york city

Post by janetcweiss » Sun Dec 26, 2010 6:28 pm

I am looking for a top notch hair transplant specialist in New York City, who has performed surgeries on women. I went for a consultation at Bernstein Medical, but I was not comfortable with having a very young associate who has only performed 150 surgeries, and whose specialty is cosmetic dermatology, do the work. I was told that he performs all of the transplants on women patients. I felt that the consultation was not at all thorough; the only "before and after" pictures the doctor was willing to share were on the website, and there was no recourse if the surgery was not successful. At $12,000 for 2000 grafts, I want to feel very confident that the surgeon I choose has much more experience and is totally dedicated to hair transplants. Any advice on how to find the best, most competent doctors?

Thanks.

Hi Janet,

While doctor Bernstein is definitely one of the more respectable hair restorations surgeons out there, I understand your apprehension with going with an associate who doesn't exclusively specialize in hair restoration. While you may get a great result if you went with this person, I would recommend a consultation with Hasson and Wong. That is where I had work done (with Dr. Wong). They are based in Vancouver but it is worth the trip, especially at the price you mentioned below. You may be able to pull the whole thing off, including your hotel and food costs, with more grafts (although I'm not sure, you'd have to work out the deal with them directly). Please not that I am biased because I have had work done there, but I am in no way compensated by them, in case you were wondering. Just giving you my personal opinion, for what it's worth.

Regards,
Sam
