Stress is a big one.
A lack of vitamins and certain nutrients in the diet also can result in poor hair health, so include dark leafy greens and nuts in to your diet.

I agree with the above post that stress is considered as the big factor for loss of hair. Even not taking proper care of hair can lead to hair fall. It is being also said that hereditary issues can be responsible for it.

Hair loss (alopecia) affects most men and women at some stage in their lives. Causes of hair loss include acute illness, chemotherapy, infections, burns, rough handling, autoimmune disease and inflammation of the scalp. Hereditary hair loss is the result of genetic and hormonal factors, and occurs when cells that normally control hair regeneration are lost.
There are fact that mainly cause of hair loss:
1 HORMONAL:This is the most common cause of thinning and affects both men and women. Men generally have hair loss concentrated in a specific pattern from the front through to the crown. Women tend to have thinning throughout their head without being in any specific pattern. This type of hair loss is caused by the androgen DHT, or Dihydro testosterone.
2 DISEASE OR ILLNESS:Since the follicle is a very sensitive it does respond to imbalances in the body. Most hair loss causes by disease or illness is temporary and resolves itself after the body has returned to a healthy condition.
3 MECHANICAL DAMAGE:Damage to the hair can be self inflicted either by intentional or unintentional means. Some people going through stress continuously pull at their hair until it comes out. Styling hair by bleaching, braiding and straightening can also cause damage and results in hair being lost.

That usually happens because of the lack of nutrition or not giving the food to the hair.Your hair needs a specific food which help them to get healthy and thick.
Massage of hair is also very important people who doesn't do that face hair loss kind of problem.

All hair loss factors:
(1) Hormonal factors:The most common cause of hair loss is a hereditary condition called male-pattern baldness or female-pattern baldness. In genetically susceptible people, certain sex hormones trigger a particular pattern of permanent hair loss. Most common in men, this type of hair thinning can begin as early as puberty.Hormonal changes and imbalances can also cause temporary hair loss. This could be due to pregnancy, childbirth, discontinuation of birth control pills or the onset of menopause.
(2)Medical conditions:A variety of medical conditions can cause hair loss, including:
1 Thyroid problems. The thyroid gland helps regulate hormone levels in your body. If the gland isn't working properly, hair loss may result.
2 Alopecia areata. This disease occurs when the body's immune system attacks hair follicles — causing smooth, roundish patches of hair loss.
3 Scalp infections. Infections, such as ringworm, can invade the hair and skin of your scalp, leading to hair loss. Once infections are treated, hair generally grows back.
4 Other skin disorders. Diseases that can cause scarring, such as lichen planus and some types of lupus, can result in permanent hair loss where the scars occur.
(3) Medications:Hair loss can be caused by drugs used to treat:
1 Cancer
2 Arthritis
3 Depression
4 Heart problems
5 High blood pressure
Other causes of hair loss Hair loss can also result from:
(5) A physical or emotional shock. Many people experience a general thinning of hair several months after a physical or emotional shock. Examples include sudden or excessive weight loss, a high fever, or a death in the family.
(6) Hair-pulling disorder. This mental illness causes people to have an irresistible urge to pull out their hair, whether it's from the scalp, their eyebrows or other areas of the body. Hair pulling from the scalp often leaves patchy bald spots on the head.
(7) Certain hairstyles. Traction hair loss can occur if the hair is pulled too tightly into hairstyles such as pigtails or cornrows.

Argan oil for hair could repair hair damage brought on by certain conditions and strong chemicals applied on the hair such as strong hair products and the frequent use of blow dryers. You don't have to wait for weeks or months before you can feel its positive effects because they can be noticed right after application of this oil on the hair. Hair becomes moisturized thus it becomes softer, shinier and healthier.

- Depression ?? :-s Give me a break! I have a friend who has has been psychotically depressed for years and is now in his 70's with a full head of hair ! It's mainly caused by the effects of the hormone DHT on the scalp. It's rarely linked to nutritional deficiencies in the west. We are the biggest devourers of food, protein, and vitamins in the world. Jeez, where's Jacob when you need him?!!

- Stress & diet... Where do you get that from? Can you post some links to the research backing that up ? No disrespect but I have never seen any literature or medical opinion that links stress to male pattern baldness / Androgenic hair loss ... that is the type of hair loss that afflicts the majority of men & women.

Hair loss can be caused by a number of a things... stress is a large factor in hair loss as I'm sure you know, however sometimes it can be a genetic disposition, a change in the diet or using a new / different product. Whats your history of hair loss?
