Eyebrow and beard hair loss

Post by kelko12 » Tue Mar 23, 2010 8:49 pm

Hi to everyone on the forums, hope somebody will be able to help me out.

This is my situation, in the last 3 months I lost about 30% of my eyebrows and my beard hair.
Some of my beard and eyebrow hair had lost it's pigment and are now yellow(blonde), it used to be black.
Ocasionally I have some mild itchiness under my eyebrow and beard hair.
Also I have some mild dandruff under eyebrows and beard, but it's really mild.
No redness whatsoever.
My last symptom is that my beard and eyebrow hair had become dry and somewhat curly.

Hair on my scalp is COMPLETELY normal (hadn't noticed any changes).

Blood tests, cbc mostly normal, all OK except MCV 78(normal 80-100) and red blood cells 6,04 (I looked at my older blood tests that are 3 and 7 years old and MCV and red blood cells where about the same)
-differential, serum iron , ferritin, crp, thyroid all OK
-liver tests AST ALT GGT all OK except bilirubin 65 (normal range 5-20) - this is somewhat normal for me as I have Gilbert's syndrome.

I'm 25 year old male.

What do you make of this, could it be sheborreic dermatitis, demodex infection, alopecia areata, telogen effluvium...
What could be causing the hair loss, what do you think?
Thanks for helping.

Hey kelko12..welcome to the forums.

This would actually be a good question for one of the experts here(I wish they could actually post HERE..more would read/get something out of it): http://www.hairlossfight.com/hairloss_experts/

I've seen other posts like this..but no one had a real answer from what I can remember. Some were saying theirs or someone they knew- colors were changing all the time..didn't really bother them. My guess is it could be more than one thing..so probably not best to rely on someone other than a doc/derm on something like this..if you're thinking it's something health related.

Some things to consider:

1) Stress related
2) immune imbalance

Using a topical to help with areata issues
Reducing Stress levels.

With alopecia areata - hair often grows back.

However calosol seems to help the immune response so to help things along.
