How to reduce Propecia/Finasteride Side Effects?

Post by bear101 » Thu Jan 14, 2010 5:30 pm

Was taking 1.25 mg Proscar daily for a month until bad sexual side effects occured. Onset was almost sudden. I quit the medication for about 1 week now things are almost back to normal.
  • Would taking a lower dose (0.25 mg or 0.5 mg) help to reduce sides?
What about taking the medication every other day or 3 days?
Let me know your experiences. Thanks.

Search for the progesterone thread in this forum.

Joey-
Sorry I couldn't find any pertinent info on progesterone at least on this forum

Norwegian-
How effective is the 7hmrlignans? Which brand do you use?
Also I've seen that it may inhibit the alpha reductase enzyme like Propecia or Avodart. Can it be used as a substitute?

I dont think it would replace Fin or Avodart no. I use it mainly for its properties inhibiting aromatase. I notice increase in sexdrive and ability to gain muscle and overall feeling of wellness. I use the Swansons 7hmr-lignans.

The side effects could be due to the increase in estradiol.

So the key is to balance your Testosterone / Estradiol ratio.

Interesting. How to you go about increasing Testosterone? Weightlifting?

After stopping a returned to normal in about a week. Now I'm cutting Proscar into 1/8 and taking daily. Will try 7HMR-Lignans too.

The key is to balance your hormones - reduce DHT and Estradiol together which should help to keep yout T levels at good levels.

Treatment Regimen: Topically currently using Elsom terminals 1/2, emu oil, dermaheal, and lamas shampoo.
Internally I take selenium, green tea phytosomes, biotin, ashwagndha, GliSODin, Probiotics, ecklonia cava extract and IH top 6 (except for curcumin), and from time to time I have also taken Avodart.
I also eat a clean diet.

George you could always use a topical beta sitosterol solution to avoid the sides-- I believe it is in Zix if I remember correct. Although I personally feel the sides would have an almost undetectable increase as compared with just the finasteride side effects alone. Finasteride is much more potent at smaller concentrations in human tissue.
As to the original opener, likely if you already have sides they will persist. You can try to do some things to decrease them such as yes lifting weights, taking terrestris tribulus, arginine, super miraforte--which contain HMRlignan Norway spruce mentioned above and Chrysin, or if needed arimidex, or even possibly testosterone gels. Problem is many of the stronger stuff such as testosterone gel will possibly be counterproductive to your hair loss treatment. Personally I would start with some natural vasodilators like L-arginine, niacin and perhaps some aromatase inhibition from super miraforte. weightlifting should also give your libido/test a boost and additionally you could try to increase dopamine for libido by taking tyrosine or even L-Dopa. Just dont take too much L-Dopa as it can cause hallucinations in high dosages. If none of this works my best suggestion is to just stop taking the finasteride. trust me i too have tried to play a balancing act with my body by using drug after drug and in the end my body still did whatever the #$%! it wanted. if the side effect persists i would recommend either stopping or cutting the dosage.
