Tons of shedding with start of minox 2%

I'm shedding all kinds of hair after starting minox 2% for the first time. I've been using it for a little over a week. I know they say you can have increased shedding during the first 2-4 wks, but it bugs me to see all of the fallen hair. Over time, do you really see less shedding on minox and re-growth?

At this point, I feel like I'm losing more hair than I'm gaining.

Hi my_username,

The shedding that you're experiencing should eventually stop, and the regrowth will take a long time -- anywhere up to 12 months. I wouldn't give up if I were you. Also, I would probably use 5% instead of 2%. Better and faster results.

Hang in there.

I'm using 2% because my skin is hyper sensitive to everything. I'm surprised the 2% isn't irritating my skin. For now, it seems okay. Also, my hair loss isn't dramatic. People don't even notice that I've lost hair. But, I'm a female and I notice. I'll switch to 5% if I don't see any re-growth.

Do you get any benefits if you only use minox one time a day? I wondered if you had seen any studies on that.

I would suggest that you look into propylene-glycol-free minox. I have found that minox in a glycerin base has been great at eliminating the irritation my scalp would get from the normal minox. You can communicate with Dr. Lee at http://www.minoxidil.com if you want to try glycerin based minox.

Regards,
Sam

It isn't the minoxidil you are sensitive to, but the other inert compounds in the mixture. You should really consider using 5% because you will not be anymore sensitive to that than the 2%.
