Published Study Shows Hubner Silica Gel Increases Hair Thick

Post by Jacob » Mon Mar 31, 2008 8:01 pm

GHENT, NY According to a study published in Kosmetische Medizin, Hubner Original Silica Gel taken for six months can increase hair thickness by nearly 13 percent.

According to the researchers, the objective of this clinical phase II pilot study was to determine the increase in volume of hair over a six-month period of taking 15 ml of silicium gel orally once daily. The study participants were 55 healthy adult women with thin hair (< 100 mm in diameter). Hair volume increased over the six-month trial period from 58.96 8.23 to 66.42 9.67 mm (or 13%).

Lead researcher I. Zschocke1, writes, Though largely determined by heredity, hair thickness is also influenced by various factors such as nutrition. Persons with thin hair frequently suffer a considerable psychological strain, and a great many patients seek help from dermatologists and health care centers for treatment. Various studies have established that hair diseases have strong adverse effects on an individuals quality of life.

Eileen Sheets, managing director of Bioforce USA, says, This study will give retailers and their customers complete confidence that the product lives up to label claims. This is especially important for women who have thin hair that affects their self esteem. And silica also has several other health benefits, making Hubner Original Silica Gel an outstanding daily dietary supplement.

Zschocke1 added that the study results prove that the hair volume increases significantly over the six-month course of taking the supplement. Even after three months, women reported noticing the efficacy of the product on hair thickness and this thickness increased continuously over an additional period of three months.

Here's the BioSil one again from the other thread:
Clinical Study Validates Jarrow Formulas BioSil(TM) Improves Hair Quality
2007-07-26 - Jarrow Formulas

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Los Angeles, California, July 27, 2007 The results of a clinical trial investigating the effects of Jarrow Formulas silicon supplement BioSil, which contains a choline-stabilized and concentrated form of orthosilicic acid, ch-OSA, on hair thickness, strength and elasticity, was presented by University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy Professor R. Randall Wickett at the Fifth International Congress of Hair Research held in Vancouver Canada on June 13-16, 2007.
An international research team conducted a 9-month, randomized, double-blind placebo controlled study using 48 healthy Caucasian women with fine hair and an average age of 43.3 years. Half the women supplemented their regular diet with 10 mg of silicon in the form of choline-stabilized orthosilicic acid, while the other half received a placebo. The BioSil group experienced a significant improvement over the placebo group including:

- Increased cross sectional area of hair fibers: 7.8 percent increase average (twice the placebo group)
- Increased diameter of hair fibers: 3.8 percent increase average (1.7 percent for the placebo group).
- Hair tensile strength and elasticity decreased significantly in the placebo group (- 10.8 %) whereas in the BioSil group no significant change was observed.

This is a rigorously controlled study demonstrating that the oral intake of a dietary supplement may improve hair quality, says Randy Wickett, Ph.D, Professor and Director of the Cosmetic Science Program at the University of Cincinnati. Hair tensile properties such as strength and elasticity may degrade over time because of exposure to sunlight or other factors. In this study the intake of choline-stabilized orthosilicic acid increased the diameter of the hair and reduced the loss of elasticity and tensile strength compared to placebo.

BioSil (US patent 5,922,360) contains a choline-stabilized and concentrated form of orthosilicic acid, ch-OSA and is manufactured by Bio Minerals n.v. in Destelbergen, Belgium. The observed improvement in hair expands upon prior clinical research showing beneficial effects on human hair from orally consuming BioSil. Previously, a significant reduction of hair brittleness was observed in a 20-week study titled Effect of oral intake of choline-stabilized orthosilicic acid on skin, hair and nails in women with photodamaged skin published in Archives of Dermatological Research (2005) 297: 147-153.

I don't see the kind of testimonials with this BioForce product as with the BioSil..yet. The cost could be an issue as well. Maybe rotate the two.

Here's the company's page on it: http://www.bioforceusa.com/HubnerSilicaGel.htm
