Propecia and Lasers

I have been on lasers for about 8 months. The results have been fantastic. Hair is darker, thicker and healthier. There has been a good amount of regrowth as well. I have been on propecia for this time period as well. I recently dropped the propecia and have gone from no shed at all to 15-20 hairs per day. How long will this propecia shed last and how much loss will result? Will the lasers ultimately bring back what I lose from the propecia shed?

I was hoping that the lasers had strengthened my hair to the point that I could withstand coming off propecia. The big concern is that my hairline will recede further.

On the plus side, my anxiety has decreased significantly, I feel much better and the sex drive is increasing. Can anyone speak from experience on this topic?

I took Propecia for 11 years but had to quit 14 months ago because of serious sexual side effects. I started lasering with a laser messiah style 250 diode helmet 2-3 weeks after I quit the drug, lasering religiously 3 x a week for 20 minutes a session, shampooing right before lasering and starting each session with slightly damp hair. So all in all, I've been lasering for 13 months +. I started out with 250 diodes, increased to 350 a few months after that, and finally ended up with a 410 +/- diode device I've been using fro the last 7 months.

I've also been using magnesium oil every day for about 8 of those months, using a pre-laser clay application for about 5 months, and applying a home made topical solution of ascorbic acid twice daily and derma-rolling it in 3-4 x a week. Also I've added caffeine powder to the ascorbic acid these past 4 weeks.

I'm laying out my current laser program in detail to make it clear to you and everyone reading that I've paid attention to all the recommendations for laser protocols laid out by the major laser proponents, and I've followed them religiously. I even tried a pre-laser polysorbate 80 topical scrub for over 3 months but I dropped it in favor of clay and a gentle clarifying shampoo (Aubrey Organics Green Tea).

All that said, I still shed 60-80 hairs every day, and sometimes more. I'll have the odd day where I'll shed 40, but then I'll make up for that the next day by shedding 80. Yesterday I counted 120 hairs in the mesh drain catch after I showered. That friggin sucked, but that's the reality. I do count hairs in the drain catch almost every day because that's the best objective measurement that I can record

I never shed like this on Propecia, but taking that drug just isn't an option for me anymore. I would still be taking it if it hadn't caused me the sexual side effects that are still persisting after over a year off.

After 13 months, I can say that for me at least, lasers have not turned out to be the saving grace that I was desperately hoping for. My hair shaft diameter has been thin since last December, and my hair color has gone from dark to light brown. I haven't looked decent since mid December of last year. Most of the hairs I shed are about 1 inch in length, thin and barely pigmented. These hairs just can't seem to live long enough to become terminal shafts.They seem to be stuck in the minaturization cycle.

You may have a better result, I don't know. I can only give you my experience so far. I haven't stopped or even slowed down shedding since I quit Propecia over a year ago. I know you were lasering for 8 months before you quit, but I don't if that will benefit you or not.

Got to be honest, if I was Propecia, i wouldn't drop it in the hope lasers would keep hold of what I had maintained or regrew on Procpecia. Makes sense to stick to something that you feel has been working for you. Obviously if I was experiencing sides/worried about long term affects, then that would be a different issue.

u guys need to understand that treatments arent interchangable, even if they work the same way. if hair grows back because a particular environment has been created through use of drugs or watever, and then u take that environment away, hairloss will resume, and eventually it will regress back to wat it would have been like had u never had touched that treatment.

so if u stop one thing, it is possible for the same regrowth to occurr from a new treatment, but first the hair must fall out from the old treatment, and then go back to baseline, then u have to wait for the new hair to grow.

so dont anyone think they can stop finasteride, and replace it with lasers, and the lasers will keep the hairs grown with finasteride, it just doesnt work this way.
